Arthur was born in 1889. He was the son of Fred Batchelor and Elizabeth Kerr.[1] He passed away in 1917 age 28. [2]
Arthur Lake Batchelor served in the Army during World War 1 (service number 7/163 ). He was a Corporal in the Canterbury Mounted Rifles. He gave his next of kin as Fred C. Batchelor (father) of Motueka, Nelson. He embarked 16 October 1914 aboard HMNZT 4 or HMNZT 11 the vessels Tahiti or Athenic as a Trooper in the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, sent in the Main Body of the NZ Expeditionary Force. He served at Gallipoli. He died of wounds, on 27 November 1917 in Palestine, in the Middle East and is buried at the Ramleh War Cemetery, in Israel (grave ref B. 33 ).[3] His name appears on the Motueka War Memorial.[4]
