Biography

From the 1809 Rumskulla, Kalmar Birth Records, C-5, 1801-1835 Under the section for born in April Name: Anna Greta Svensdotter, Birthdate: 30 Apr, Parents: Sven Svensson and wife Kersten Nilsdotter

The 1805-1814 Rumskulla, Kalmar, Sweden Household book (AI:4) lists Anna Greta, born 1 May 1809 in a croft/farm in Torpet Sockulla in Rumskullas as living there since her birth until the end of this book in 1814. Also in the household is her father Sven Svensson, a crofter, born in 1776 in Tesser who had moved into the parish from Fors in 1801, her mother, a housewife, born in 1776 in Tesser who had moved into the parish from Fors in 1801 (Anna's parents were listed as married in 1801), and Anna's older siblings Ingeb(org) Stina born on 19 Jan 1804 (translated as 1764) in Rumskulla, Lisa Cath(arine) born in 1805 in Rumskulla, and Gustafva born on 19 Jul 1807 in Rumskulla.

From the 1811 Tidersrum, Ostergotland Birth Records, CI-3, 1788-1860 Name: Nils Peter - unathentic (according to Cousin Roland this means he was born without his mother being married), Birthdate: 12 Jul (despite the different birthdate I am fairly certain that this is the birth record for our Nils Peter - it was pulled in Sweden by Kristoffer Mueller who scanned and added it to Ancestry with the note that the birthday was actually 5 Jul which still does not match the household books after his childhood that all show 5 Sep), mother is widow Maja Andersdotter of Manstorp, age 35, and then is listed the people who witnessed the baptism.

We know that Nils Peter's mother only married once, and her husband, Jonas Jonsson, died in 1807. The above birth record for Nils Peter confirms that she was not married when he was born, as his birth was several years after her husband died, he could not have been Jonas' son, he was therefore the child of an unknown father, and his parents were not married.

The 1810-1815 Tidersrum, Ostergotland, Sweden Household book (AI-5) lists Nils Petter, born 4 __ 1811 in Tidersrum as living there from his birth until the end of the book in 1815. Also in the household is his mother Maria Maja Andersdotter born in 1775 in Svinhold, there is another child in the home, Johan Jonsson born in 1805 also in Tidersrum who was Nils's half-brother, and also in the household is Jon Svenson Horn born in 1740 who I thought might be a second husband for her, but Cousin Roland does not believe that he belongs to Maria Maja's family.

The 1815-1819 Rumskulla, Kalmar, Sweden Household book (AI:5) lists Anna Greta as born on 30 Apr 1808 (translated as 1800 but this would be way off from the previous book and future books) in a croft/farm in Gronshult in Rumskulla. She appears to have lived at this location for the entire time of this book until 1819. Also in the household was her father Sven Svensson born on 25 Mar 1776 in Firser, her mother Kjerstin Nilsdotter born in 1776 in Firs, and her siblings Gustafva born 19 Jul 1807 and Ingeborg Stina born 6 May 1814 (this could be 1804 in the document).

I have not been able to find Anna Gretha/Greta Svensdotter in any other documents until her marriage to Nils Peter Andersson in 1833.

The 1816-1825 Tidersrum, Ostergotland, Sweden Household book (AI-6) lists Nils Petter as born 7 May 1811 in Tidersrum. Also living in the household is his mother Maja Andersdotter born in 1775, his older half-brother Johanny Jonsson born in Aug 1905 and his younger half-brother Carl Johan born 17 Mar 1817, whose father was Samuel Carlsson who does not appear to have ever married Nils Peter's mother. There are three others listed above Maja, possibly in the same household. Cousin Roland says that some of the writing on the page says "for person with no other domicile than a ????", "Recorded among unmarried persons in the parish during the census for the year 1823" (this statement seems to confirm that Maria Maja had not married), and "son Johannes age certificate for N 700 8/11 1823 (Roland says he had no idea what this means).

Cousin Roland also says that he has found Nils Peter in three other Tidersrum Household books (AI:7 Pg 172, AI:8 Pg 35 and Pg 24) that cover the time before he married. None of these books are available in Ancestry or FamilySearch at this time.

From the 1933 Tidersrum, Ostergotland Marriage Records book (CI-3), under November married, we find:
No. 3 Nils Peter Andersson, a farmhand from Bolo, age 22, and Anna Gr Svensdotter, a maid from Bolo, Age 24, married on the 29th; Bright (or Lysning) the public bans of the marriage were read on Oct 20, Oct 27, and Nov 3, and that they were married in Bolo.

This newly married couple are listed in the 26 Oct 1834 Tidersrum Household book (BI:1) as Nils Pet Andersson born in Tidersrum and wife Gretha born in Rumskulla.

The 1835-1840 Rumskulla, Kalmar, Sweden Household book (AI:9) says that the family moved to a croft/farm in Solberga in Rumskulla from Tidersrum in 1834. In the household was Nils P. Andersson born in Tidersrum on 5 Sep 1811, his wife An Greta Svensdotter born 30 Apr 1809, and children: Gustafva Carolina born 22 Jan 1835, Anders Peter born 24 Mar 1837, and Sven Johan Conrad (my g-g grandfather) born 3 Nov 1839. The family appears to have remained in this home until 1840 when this book came to an end.

The 1841-1845 Rumskulla, Kalmar, Sweden Household book (AI:10) shows the family at the same croft/farm. In the household now was Nils Andersson, Anna Gretha Svensdotter (birthday now shown as 30 May 1809), and children: Gustafva Carolina, Anders Peter, Sven Johan Conrad, and new twin sons August Wilhelm and Carl Frederick born on 12 Aug 1842. The family appears to have remained in this home until 1845 when this book came to an end.

The 1845-1851 Rumskulla, Kalmar, Sweden Household book (AI:11) shows the family with their croft or farm in Osterhult. In the household now was Nils Pet Andersson a farmer, Anna Gr Svensdotter (birthdate now 30 Mar 1809), and children: Gustava Carolina (who had left the home for a short time in 1850 returning the same year), Anders Peter, Sven Johan Conrad, August Wilhelm, Carl Frederick, and a new daughter Anna Charlotta born on 4 Feb 1848. Other than daughter Gustava's brief departure in 1850 the entire family remained in this location until this book ended in 1851.

The 1851-1856 Rumskulla, Kalmar, Sweden Household book (AI:12) shows the family at the same farm in Osterhult. In the household now was Nils Petter Andersson, Anna Gr Svensdotter (birthdate back to 30 Apr 1809), and children: Gustafva Carolina (who moved out of the household in 1853), Anders Peter, Sven Johan Conrad, August Wilhelm, Carl Frederick, and Anna Charlotta who died on 12 Apr 1852. Everyone in the family, except Nils has been given as date as to when they were baptized. Anna Gretha's parents are listed as Sven Svensson and Kerstin Nilsdotter in the parents' section. The family does not show as moving away from the are in this book, but I know from information received from out cousin Roland in Sweden, and from at least one other book I was able to find that they did all move in 1853 and ended up in Gotland, Sweden.

We know that they were in Hall, Gotland for a time, and that on 30 Apr 1854 they moved to Hangvar in Gotland leaving there on 13 Jun 1855 to return to Rumskulla. Roland has them in the Hangvar, Gotland book (B:1) and I did find them in the below Gotland book.

In the 1850-1854 Hall, Gotland, Sweden Household book (AI:2) the family with their croft/farm in Pa Grunden. In the household during this time was Nils Petter Andersson - a worker, his wife Anna Greta Svensdotter, and their children: Gustafva Carolina, Anders Peter, Sven Johan Conrad, August Wilhelm, and Carl Frederick. The book shows that when the family left Gotland and returned to Rumskulla, Kalmar sons Anders Peter and Sven Johan Conrad remained behind.

From 1855 to 1861 I have not been able to find a record as to where the couple's only surviving daughter Gustafva was. Both of their older sons did not remain long in Gotland and later that year rejoined their parents in Rumskulla.

In the 1857-1860 Rumskulla, Kalmar, Sweden Household book (AI:13) the family had settled back into a croft/farm in Osterhult. In the household during this time was Nils Pet Andersson, his wife Anna Gr Svensdotter, and their sons: Anders Peter (according to Cousin Roland, in 1857 Anders moved over to Solberga Hovetorp Vist parish where he died on 20 Mar 1858), Sven Johan Conrad (who moved out of the home in 1858), August Wilhelm, and Carl Frederick. In 1860 the family appears to have left Rumskulla, Kalmar for good and moved to Ostergotland where they first settled in Skeda.

In the 1857-1860 Skeda, Ostergotland, Sweden Household book (AI:20) the family had moved to Skeda where they settled for the next several years. In the household during these years was Nils Pet Andersson, his wife Anna Gr. Svensdotter and their twin sons August Wilhelm and Carl Frederick. Both of these sons were in and out of their parents' home over the next few years.

In the 1861-1866 Skeda, Ostergotland, Sweden Household book (AI:21) the family appears to be living in the same location. From 1860 to 1862 (Pg 188 in the book) in the household was Nils Peter Andersson, his wife Anna Greta Svensdotter, and their unmarried daughter, Gustafva Caroline who had moved back in with them on 15 Oct 1861. From 1862 to 7 Apr 1867 (Pg 279 in the book) in the household was Nils Petter Andersson, his wife Anna Greta Svensdotter, and their children: Gustafva Carolina (who died on 12 Jan 1863) and Carl Frederick. On 7 Apr 1867 the couple moved with their son Carl to Vist in Ostergotland, Sweden.

In the 1863-1871 Vist, Ostergotland, Sweden Household book (AI:12A) the family was living in a croft/farm in Karsnas Rote. Living in the home at the time they moved in on 7 Apr 1867 was Nils Peter Andersson, his wife, Anna Greta Svensdotter, and their son Carl Frederick whose occupation was given as a farm hand. It appears that all three were living here thru the end of this book in 1871.

In the 1871-1875 Vist, Ostergotland, Sweden Household book (AI:13A) the family remained in Vist on this farm (although it is now listed as Stafsatter) until 4 Nov 1872. During this time in the household was Nils Peter Andersson, his wife Anna Gretha Svensdotter, and their sons Carl Frederick and August Wilhelm (who had moved back in with them on 13 Nov 1871).

We know from the above Vist book that on 4 Nov 1872, Nils, Anna and Carl moved from Vist to St. Lars also in Ostergotland. I have not been able to find the St. Lars book for this time, but we know from the following book that by 1875 they had left St. Lars and moved to Linkoping (which I believe St. Lars is part of).

In the 1876-1880 Linkoping, Ostergotland, Sweden Household book (AI:65) Nils Peter Andersson, a worker, and his wife Anna Greta Svensdotter are shown as moving into Linkoping in 1875 and moved out again in 1876 this time moving to Slaka, also in Ostergotland.

The first book I found them in Slaka in is the 1881-1885 book (AI:21) where Nils Peter Andersson and Anna Greta Svensdotter were listed as living for the entire time of the book.

In the 1886-1890 Slaka, Ostergotland, Sweden Household book (AI:23) Nils Peter Andersson and his wife Anna Greta Svensdotter were living on a croft/farm in Mjardevi where they lived until 2 Nov 1887 when they moved back to Vist.

In the 1881-1890 Vist, Ostergotland, Sweden Household book (AI:15A) Nils Peter Andersson, a worker, and his wife Anna Greta Svensdotter are shown as moving into a croft/farm in Stavsatter on 9 Dec 1887. They remained there thru the end of this book in 1890.

The final Household book that shows this old couple is the 1891-1899 Vist, Ostergotland, Sweden book (AI:16A) which shows them living in the same croft/farm as the previous book did. The book shows Anna Grethe Svensdotter as dying there on 16 Aug 1893 and Nils Peter Andersson, a worker, dying there on 7 May 1895.

The 1895 Death Book for Vist Congregation and its Burial Book
