Martha Anderson Kyle was born in Virginia about 1790 according to the 1850 census. She married James Kyle in Winchester, Clark County Kentucky on December 29, 1809. The couple and their oldest son Thomas moved to Knox County Indiana in 1811.
Her husband James died after his will was written on May 24, 1843. She renounced her right to be administrator, instead allowing her oldest son Thomas to be appointed. Although her husband left her nothing in his will, she was entitled to take under the Indiana statue, the following: the beds, the cupboard dishes, kitchen table, and other household goods as well as the geese, 55 lbs. of wool, the hogs, 10 head of the sheep, the bay mare, the white backed cow, and the red heifer.
When the 1850 census was taken, she was living probably on the farm her husband had left to their son James, with James, Elizabeth, and Margaret. She was not found in the 1860 census.
