Obituary from Ancestry.com: In the Knoxville, Iowa newspaper - Many readers of "The Express" will learn with regret the death of a former Knoxville woman, Mrs. Mary F. Scott, who passed away at Hammond, Indiana on May 26th. Mary F. Anderson was born Feb 12, 1842, at Allegheny, Pennsylvania, and passed away May 26, 1921, at Hammond Indiana, aged 79 years, 3 months, and 14 days. She was married November 17, 1863, at Knoxville to Samuel Dent Honnold, the ceremony being performed by Rev. P. H. Jacob. To this union was born one son, Robert, who died Sept 29, 1878. Mr. Honnold died Feb 16, 1866. She was married to Thomas H. Scott on Dec 9, 1867, by Rev. P. H. Jacob, at Pella. Of this union were nine children, five of whom died at early age. The four children living are Harry E. Scott, Des Moines; Mrs. Della Aimes of San Francisco; Clark Scott of Oskaloosa, and Irvin K. Scott, of Hammond, Indiana; a granddaughter, Mrs. Hal Selfe, of Des Moines. Her husband, Thomas Scott, died May 5, 1915 (Find a Grave states his date of death as March 04, 1913). Mrs. Scott was one of Iowa's early settlers, moving to Marion County from Ohio in the year 1852. For a number of years, she resided near Otley, Marion County, Iowa, and later moved to a farm near Knoxville. She resided there and in Knoxville 39 years, and afterward 15 years in Des Moines with her son, Irvin. They moved to Hammond, Ind., Dec 16, 1920, where she lived until her death.

A personal letter from a son of deceased, Irvin K. Scott, gives additional particulars. "I came to Hammond last December to take charge of the Boy Scout work here as Boy Scout executive. Mother came with me, and we were happily located with a Mrs. Dillon and her family. In February, in fact on her 79th birthday, February 12, she fell downstairs and broke her left arm. She was very cheerful and pluck and had made real progress toward a complete recovery. However, the two hot days last week were too much for her, I think, consequently she got a blood clot on her brain. This happened some time Tuesday night while she was asleep. I found her unconscious Wednesday morning, and she remained so until her death on Thursday. She had been a patient and wonderful mother and went to her reward as she wanted to go--in her sleep. We buried her in Pella beside her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Anderson, who were early settlers at Pella. She and her mother both died the same age, 79 years and 3 months.

Buried at Oak Wood Cemetery, Pella, Marion County, Iowa.
