Family

Dean was born in Greeley, Colorado to Glen Anderson and Linda Berry and before I was a year old we moved. For the first few years of my life we lived in several different location due to my fathers job. Eventually we settled in Walden, Colorado which happen to be home for my parents. We lived there until the summer of 1972 when my father got a job in Toledo, Ohio. So we packed up and moved across the "Great Midwest" to Toledo. What a culture shock for us kids, we went from a small town of just over 900 people to a city of over 400,000 people and that didn't include all the surrounding towns.

Dean married Stacie Rene Steely on 8 Jun 1984 in Toledo, Ohio. [1] They had two daughters from the marriage Danielle Leigh and Jessica Rae. Danielle was born while he was stationed at Misawa AB, Japan and Jessica Rae [2] was born while he was stationed at Beale AFB, CA. Dean and Stacie were divorced on 18 Dec 1990 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio. [3]

Dean was remarried to Tammie Shaye Hardy on 19 Apr 1991 in May, Brown County, Texas. [4] They have one son Anthony Chris Edward Anderson. Anthony was born at Wilford Hall Medical Center on Lackland AFB while he was stationed at Kelly AFB, Texas. [5]

Military Career

I am a retired veteran who served in the US Air Force for almost 21 years. I had the privilege of being stationed at numerous locations throughout the United States and the world. I was honored to have my retirement ceremony conducted in the courtyard at The Alamo and my retirement flag was flown above The Alamo prior to the ceremony. So, my military career has a special bond to San Antonio, it began with basic training, reenlisted in front of the The Alamo and ended with my last assignment at Lackland AFB.

My assignments included: Lackland AFB, Texas, Lowry AFB, Colorado, Keesler AFB, Mississippi, Misawa AB, Japan, Beale AFB, CA, Taegue, AB, Republic of Korea, Kelly AFB, Texas, Eielson AFB, Alaska, Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona, and Lackland AFB, Texas.

I had many deployments and temporary assignments, here are just a few: Kadena AB, Okinawa, Yokota AB, Japan, Vincenza, Italy, Saudi Arabia (Desert Storm), Osan AB, Republic of Korea, Mildenhall AB, England, Clark AB, Philippines, Goodfellow AFB, Texas, Hurlburt Field, Florida, Nellis AFB, Nevada, and Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. Several of these I have been to multiple times.

After the military my jobs have required me to continue travelling. Because of that I am hoping to accomplish my goal of visiting all 50 states and as many countries as possible, to include all 7 continents. Overall, I have been to 40 different states and at least 15 different countries, to include 4 out of the 7 continents. And these lists continue to grow each year as I continue to travel. I hope to make that happen soon.

Hobbies and Interests

I have been working on my family’s genealogy off and on for several years and have recently decided to start spending more time to getting it finished. I have always been fascinated with history and this goes right along with it. Additionally, I want to make sure that my grandchildren know who their ancestors where and were they came from. This is very important to me and I want to continue doing my part to keep the legacy alive.

I also enjoy doing research and looking for information, so I thought this would be an effective way to continue doing that and helping other people find their ancestors. I have found working on project to be very rewarding and have learned a lot about the different ones I have worked on. I try to work on a new one every month, in fact I find myself working on a couple at a time.

Besides genealogy I am an avid hockey fan. In fact, I play in an adult league, have coached youth for almost 20 years and have officiated for close to 25 years. Besides hockey I have also officiated football for almost 20 years. The highlights of my officiating have been when I was asked to work the Florida Panther (NHL) and San Antonio Rampage (AHL) Training Camp Scrimmage Games when I was stationed in San Antonio, Texas in 2003. It was a wonderful time getting to skate with the teams. I have also done numerous state high school hockey playoff and championship games in Texas, Arizona, and Nebraska. However, the best probably was when I was working the State High School Football Championship Game in Alaska, it was televised and I made a call along the sidelines on a pass play calling it out of bounds. The coaches and players for that team didn’t like the call, but because it was televised the announcers were able to replay it in slow-motion and watch it again. And “yes” I made the right call.

Hi Dean, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and New Years. Thank you so much for all you do for the Challenges, we have again completed a challenge adding more then 800 soldiers to the Andersonville National Cemetery.
Dean Anderson created profiles in December 2023 US Civil War Project Andersonville National Cemetery W Surnames Challenge.

The US Civil War January Challenge is to connect US Civil War Soldiers for the January Connect-a-Thon. This year will be a twist of what I usually do. Instead of you choosing a "Surname Letter", you will be choosing from a block of soldiers whom I've already screened that show they have family to connect. Each soldier has a connection to one or more of his immediate family--parents, siblings, spouses, children, on their profile. Whether you work on one soldier or your whole block of soldiers, it's one step closer in our goal to connect each of our US Civil War Soldiers. The goal is to make sure all these soldiers are connected at least by one or two degrees. You can sign up now by clicking this link: US Civil War Sign-up Chart

I ran across your name on Wikitree and I don’t even remember what brought me to your profile, but after I saw it, I noticed your service to what I have stated on my profile page as the greatest nation in the world. Even though I may get grief for calling it that, I just wanted to say thank you so much for your service to it. I also have family members in the Air Force and other branches of the military that serve under our flag which I also proudly display which I have also received criticism as a choice I have chose to keep as my profile picture.

I understand what you meant when you stated the culture shock you experienced when you moved from Colorado to Lucas County in Ohio. As you can well imagine, it was quite a culture shock I also experienced when I moved from one of the most remote areas of Central Appalachia to a very large city in Ohio. The county I moved to in Ohio is much larger than Lucas County. In fact, it doesn't get much larger. So, I understand the challenges that are associated with culture shock and the adjustment that can be necessary.

I also want to congratulate you on an amazing career. How fortunate you were to have your retirement ceremony conducted in the courtyard at the Alamo since you began and ended your career in San Antonio. I see where you stated since leaving the military, your jobs have kept you busy and you have had the good fortune to be able to travel to 40 states and are well on your way of meeting your established goal of visiting all 50 states. I wish you luck. If there is one thing I regret most in life, it has been my lack of travel throughout the most beautiful country in the world. We have it all here. There just is no comparison to the United States of America.

Hi Dean, I saw your comment on Van_Zijl-479. Please be aware that the automatic place name suggestion is creating these errors. South Africa and the provinces only came into existence in the 20th century. I did remove the [brackets] however. Thanks for alerting us! Much appreciated.

Hi Dean,

I think you have already had requests, asking you to add the Disasters Project as manager to the following pages.

Space:Central_Pacific_Mine_No._3_-_Explosion

Space:Union_Pacific_Coal_Company_Mine_No._1_-_Explosion_27_Apr_1890

Central_Pacific_Mine_No._3_-_Explosion/

Space:Union_Pacific_Mine_No._4_-_Explosion

I have repeated the request today.

Would you do that please so that we can bring them up the standards we are trying to achieve.

Regards Joan

Hi Dean,

You may have noticed that the Disasters Project is doing a lot of work at the moment tidying up mining disasters pages. We have noticed that you have done some fantastic work on Wyoming Mining disasters. Thank you so much for that. We would like to preserve the work you have done, but would prefer to move some of the information onto the pages of the specific disasters. I do not know how you feel about us doing that and would love to hear your views. If we do not hear from you we will presume that you are happy for us to proceed.

Regards Joan

Hi Dean.

On behalf of the Disasters Project Leaders we are carrying out a check-in to see how all the members are doing and taking the opportunity to thank you for all your hard work in the past.

We have recently made a lot of changes. We are changing the focus of the project to include more about people involved in disasters and the effect it had on them and their families. We have divided the project into teams. Please have a look https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Disasters

Please let me know, by comment on my profile or a private message, whether you are still active in the project, and which team(s) you would like to work with. What are you enjoying most about being in the project? What would you like to see improved or changed?

We're looking forward to hearing back from you,

Joan and Lizzie

Incredibly great work during the 2020 Scan-a-thon! Our Tree has been enhanced by your efforts to preserve photos and documents, Dean!

The Appreciate Team THANKS YOU!

Thanks so much for your kind comment and contribution to the Dale-2911 profile. Is there any chance you are related to Anthony Anderson who shares DNA along this family line? I have been unsuccessful in contacting him (FTDNA and GEDmatch).
