Brainard - Indian ???

Hans,

Can you tell me where you found proof that there is any Indian blood in the Brainard family? That is one of my main genealogy lines and Leonard Brainard is my 3rd great-grandfather and for me at this time the Indian assumption is just that covered with rumor. I just completed another lengthy research on both sides of the line and could find no one who would have been Leonard's parents, especially with Indian heritage.

I am always looking for corrections, but I have never found any proof of Leonard's Indian heritage.

Thanks,

Diane Kepus

I think you are asking about https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Brainard-737 (not Hans Hofmann). The Brainard-737 profile indicates that he was an orphan and is claimed to have had Mohawk ancestry through his mother, whose identity apparently is unknown..

Claims of Native American ancestry like this one seem to be rather common, and it is exceptionally rare for them to have any factual basis.
