Biography

From Worden Family Association Database:[1]

PMW p. 126-128: Henry Worthington appears at the head of the Pedigree of the Worthingtons of Blainscough recorded by William Flower, Norroy King of Arms, during the visitation of Lancashire in 1567. The herald's records, still preserved in the College of Arms, are shown in 'Worthingtons of Medival England.' A trick of arms was recorded: Argent Three dung forks sable in chief a cresent. The heralds again recorded a pedigree of the Worthingtons of Blainscough at their visitation of Lancashire in 1664. George Worthington, Genealogy of Worthington Family 1894 Newberry Microfiche 3107 (6 fiches): Cites Burke's Landed Gentry of Great Britain: 'In Hundred of Leyland, Parish of Standish, Palatinate of Lancaster is the Manor of Worthington. The main stock established at Worthington is recorded in the Herald's Visitations and can be traced through the public archives as far back as the time of Henry III. In the 20th of that monarch's reign [1236] the name of William de Worthington held half a knight's fee in Worthington. In the 5th of the next reign William de Worthington is mentioned and in the 20th Hugh de Worthington and John de Heton as holding half a knight's fee in Worthington, in the Hundred of Leyland.' George Worthington continues: 'Of the derivative branches of this most ancient family, the oldest is that of Henry de Worthington of Blainscough; the second Christopher Worthington, Esq., of Crosshawe; third William Worthington of Shevington, in Standish Parish, County Lancaster, described in the 'Herald's Visitations' as a younger bother of the family of Worthington of Worthington. In this third branch the rather uncommon name of Nicholas appears for the first time' [this work is concerned with the descendents of Nicholas Worthington; goes on to describe William Worthington of Shevington--who does not appear to be an ancestor of our Worthingtons.
