Biography

Albert Wood was born in Cheshire, England.

Albert Wood was born in 1879 in Hall Green, Cheshire, son of Emily Wood.

In 1881 Albert 3, was living with his maternal grandparents John and Sarah Wood in Odd Rode, Cheshire.^[1] In 1887 his mother Emily married Joseph Bloor and in 1891 he was living with them in Harpurhey, Manchester. ^[2] He remained in Manchester and in 1901 age 22, worked as a General Labourer. He likely met his future wife through their lodger Patrick Smith who married Alice Burrows in 1901, and he married her sister Ruth the following year.^[3]

Albert and Ruth married on 1 February 1902 at Albert Memorial Church, in Collyhurst, Manchester, ^[4] and in 1911 they were living in Westmorland Street, Manchester where Albert worked as a Bleachers Porter. ^[5] Albert and Ruth had no children. In 1921 census Albert 43, was a Coopers Assistant, living with his wife at Westmoreland Street, Harpurhey. ^[6]

Albert died in 1935 age 57, and was buried in Philips Park Cemetery, Miles Platting, Manchester, with a burial date of 22 August 1935.^[7][8]

Research Notes

Re: Albert's father: It seems likely that the William Wood who was named in the marriage certificate as Albert's father could be ficticious. His mother Emily Wood was likely unmarried when he was born, ^[9] but cannot be sure. Emily was likely the daughter of John Wood and Sarah (possibly) Walker, who were named as his grandparents in 1881 census. The marriage record for Emily and Joseph Bloor records her as a Spinster. ^[10]
