MISCONDUCT OF WIFE

Edgar Arundel Puckey (Mr. Singer) petitioned for the dissolution of his marriage with Nettie Puckey on the ground of misconduct. Alexander McKenzie, a half-caste Maori, was cited as co-respondent, from whom the petitioner claimed £500 damages. Counsel stated that the marriage took place in 1911, and the parties resided at Awanui. There were four children. In 1919 the respondent became acquainted with the co-respondent who was a man of means. The respondent came to Auckland at the beginning of 1920, ostensibly to see her mother, but really to join the co-respondent with whom she bad been keeping up a correspondence. She had not returned and had written to the petitioner stating that she would not do so. Letters from the co-respondent to the respondent were produced. The petitioner gave evidence as outlined by counsel. The jury found that adultery bad been proved and awarded £500 damages against the co-respondent. A decree nisi was granted with costs.
