John Wiles (bef. 1847)

Biography

John was born^[1] and baptised in 1847 in Ottringham, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of John Wiles and Mary Eggleston.^[2] The family lived in Ottringham, where John's father was a shoemaker and earthenware dealer.^[3][4]

In 1874 banns were published in Eastrington, Yorkshire, for the marriage of Mary Alice Harland and John Wiles.^[5] The couple married in Hull.^[6][7]

The Wiles family lived in Hull, where John worked as a joiner in 1881.^[8][9] By 1891 he had become a licensed victualler at the William IV.^[10][11] In 1901 he ran the Punch Hotel.^[12]
