Memorial services for Aubrey Leon Whitson, 84, of Palestine, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday at the Cooper Funeral Home Chapel. He passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, in Athens.Aubrey was born July 21, 1925, to his parents, Edward and Georgia Garner Whitson, in Greenville, and grew up in Oklahoma and North Texas. He graduated from high school in Achille, Okla. He enjoyed dirt track race cars, working with his hands, fishing, bow hunt, and was a Dallas Cowboy fan.Mr. Whitson is preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Lois Ingram Whitson; and his son, Larry Dale Whitson.Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and William Abshire, of Santa Fe; Dora and James Hoyle, of Palestine; Patricia Whitson and Don Recknagel, of Palestine; Susan and Arnold Hale, of Palestine; and Billie and Rim Loughlin, of Garland; sister, Verna Ray Taylor, of Palestine; 12 grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
