Samuel was a builder in and around London. In Victoria from 1856 he worked as a building contractor from his home in Young St, Fitzroy and also served as a Pastor of the particular Baptist denomination. He was Pastor at the Wellington St, Collingwood chapel in the 1860's, then at Mt Zion Baptist Chapel, Henry St, Hawthorn from about 1873 to 1882, when the chapel was physically removed to the south side of Burwood Rd, Auburn, just West of Auburn Rd. Here he continued to minister until his death in 1885. For many years Samual Ward preached once a month at the Zion Particular Baptist chapel (erected 1869) at Newham, near Woodend. Died at 1 Belleview Cottages, Park St, Collingwood Victoria Aged 72[1] Buried June 4 1885 Boroondara Cemetery, Kew, Victoria (Baptist)[2]
Emigration Of The Ward Family To Australia Samuel Ward and his family sailed from Liverpool on October 21 1855 aboard The "Sultana", a Royal Mail Ship of 1316 tons (Master - David C. Taylor) which arrived at Melbourne on Saturday January 12 1856 after a voyage of eighty-three days.
