Biography

Nancy (Ward) Sutherland was born in New South Wales, Australia

Nancy Ward was born on May 16, 1920 in Emlyn Hospital, Summer Hill, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, daughter of Charles Benjamin Ward (1870–1925) and Winifred Alice McKern (1886–1976).^[1]

Nancy was a legal secretary who went on to become a solicitor at a time when few women had a legal career. She never had her own children but she sponsored an international child for many years through an international child sponsorship scheme and wrote to him regularly. He later came to Australia to study at University and stayed with her while he was studying.^[2]

Nancy married James McDonald Sutherland (born 1917, Sydney, New South Wales; son of William McDonald Sutherland and Clara Ethel McDonald). Through her marriage later in life, Nancy gained step children who she loved as her own.^[2]

Nancy died on August 10, 2014 in Willoughby, New South Wales, aged 94.^[3]
