Biography

I was introduced to WikiTree when I met Patricia Gallivan O'Malley at the 2011 Clare Roots Society conference in Ennis. I registered a couple of days later, but did not return until links between GEDmatch and WikiTree became possible around the start of 2017. However, I did not attempt to integrate a GEDCOM file from my own genealogy database with the WikiTree collaborative tree until Louis Kessler's Behold Blog alerted me to the WikiTree Challenge in March 2021. As of August 2023, I was still gradually migrating my direct ancestors from an uploaded GEDCOM file to WikiTree, starting with those from whom I could see the shortest connection to the main WikiTree.
The master version of my genealogy database is maintained offline with Ancestral Quest. From time to time, I upload extracts (excluding details of living individuals) to my own TNG-based website, where those who provide a good reason for requesting access may register. One good reason for registering would be "to check for additional information about, sources for, and close relatives of specified profiles which I have edited on WikiTree". My website contains lots of additional information on my genealogical activities.
Five of my GGgrandparents lived in County Clare, as a result of which I have a particular interest in that county and am the leader of the County Clare Team which is part of the Ireland Project on WikiTree.
I administer or co-administer a number of projects at FamilyTreeDNA.com and also started a Cahir Name Study here at WikiTree in April 2023 for Jerry Cahir.

- Paternal relationship is confirmed by an autosomal GEDmatch comparison between Paddy Waldron and Antoin Daltún, his 1st cousin. Their most-recent common ancestors are Jack Waldron and Ciss McNamara, the grandparents of Paddy Waldron and grandparents of Antoin Daltún. Predicted relationship from GEDmatch: "Estimated number of generations to MRCA = 2", based on sharing 896.5 cM across 33 segments. Paddy is the son of Patrick Henry Pearse Waldron who is the son of the common ancestors Jack Waldron & Ciss McNamara.

I avoid google group and discord as I struggle to keep up with ordinary email.
I am slightly bemused as to why WikiTree projects use external websites for communication between members when WikiTree has its own G2G forum, which would seem a far more natural home for such communications.

Thanks for taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. One quick way to find the profiles you adopted is by searching your Contributions List for the word "adopted" and "manager." You can find a quick link to your Contributions List in the My WikiTree dropdown menu.
If you will be working with any profiles needing GEDCOM cleanup, the AGC tool can help with formatting so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

It was great to see your name among the new people at Wikitree! I reached out to you a couple of years ago (through a recommendation) to try and help me break down some of my Irish brick walls. Your database has been helpful and I very much appreciate it. Through autosomal DNA matches, I've learned that some of my mom's ancestors came from the Miltown Malbay area. I may never know how my Quinlivan ties in with the Sextons, Marrinans, Reidys, Clancys, etc., but I'll keep plugging away with my research.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Thank you for adding a GEDCOM. The GEDCOM does not automatically populate your tree. It generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through, either accepting or rejecting all suggested matches. Once that has been done, you should see [add] buttons for each of the remaining names.
The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.
For those using Chrome or Opera browsers, there is a tool that can help with the formatting of profiles that have been created through GEDCOM, so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.
