Biography

Mary was born about 1610. She was the daughter of John Tomlinson and Mary Langley.

On 28 April 1631, Marie (Mary) wed John Dorinne in All Saints Parish Church in Bristol, England.

She passed away at an unknown date after 13 October 1646 when her father, John Tomlinson, wrote his will, which named her.

Research Notes

  • The names Marie and Mary are separate names, but in the early sixteenth century, they appear to be used interchangeably. Some records, such as her marriage record list her as Marie. Her mother's name was Mary.

Proof of Parentage

  • Mary was listed as the daughter of John Tomlinson in her 28 April 1631 marriage record to John Dorine.[1]
  • Mary and four siblings were named in John Tomlinson's 1646 will: "All the rest of my goods and cattells, chattells debts and other estate what soeber wheather Chattells be real or lesouall (note: leasehold) my debts and legacis being paid and funerall expenses dischardged I will shall be divided in ffive equall parts whereof my sonne John to enjoy one ffiveth part thereof And my ffoure daughters Vist: Martha Pitt, Elizabeth Browne, Mary Dorney & Anne Whetcombe one ffiveth into a piece thereof And I do appoint my saide sonne in Laws Mr Browne and Mr Dorney to be Overseers of this my last will & testament."[2]
  • John Tomlinson married Mary Langley in St. Thomas Parish Church on 12 July 1607 as proven by the parish marriage records.[3] [4]
  • Mary (Langley) Tomlinson was buried 24(?) December 1620 in All Saint's Parish Church property. The date was difficult to read, but the month and year are certain. [5]
  • No evidence suggests John Tomlinson was married to anyone prior to Mary Langley and there is nothing to suggest Mary (Tomlinson) Dorine was born after Mary (Langley) Tomlinson's December 1618 death. Also, had Mary been born after December 1618, , at her marriage she would have been under thirteen years of age, and probably much younger. So, it is almost certain

that Mary Langley was Mary (Tomlinson) Dorine's mother.
