William Tisdell was a convict after the Third Fleet transported to New South Wales

From Staffordshire, England, found himself coming under the long arm of the law, his crime..robbing his Master, his punishment..Life imprisonment & Transportation to the Colony of New South Wales."[1]

Physical Description: Cast outward in the left eye, small scar outer corner of the left eyebrow, round scar back of the left ear, blue scar over right eyebrow, woman on upper, W T on lower left arm, anchor & 11 dots back of the left hand. blue ring fourth finger of the same, Blue ring on the fourth finger of the right hand, a scar back of the little finger of the same, scar inside the lower right arm.

A convict at Lake Innes. William Tisdell began his life in England; he was born on 9th April 1812, the son of James Tisdell and Ann Cole. William was baptised on 26th April 1812 at Brierley Hill, Staffordshire England. Research shows it is possible he had a sister named Elizabeth Tisdell. William was apprenticed to James Bayley of Tipton, Staffordshire to learn the trade of cabinetmaking. At the Staffordshire Assizes on 23rd July 1833, he was convicted of robbery. He had one prior conviction in 1831. At the time of his first offence, William would have been 19 years of age.

William Tisdall 27 Susan Life Bond Catherine Scott 23 Came Free The usual engagement having been entered into by the Assignee of Tisdall. Date of Permission: 22 January 1840 Clergyman: The Reverend John Cross. Port Macquarie.

Aboard the "Susan" the ship's surgeon spelt his name "Teasdale" and treated William for epilepsy which he had suffered since injuring his back some years before. (A chest of drawers falls on him.) Williams' Death Certificate states the cause as "Stricture of the intestines 5 weeks".

"In a book titled 'The Struggle Against Isolation: a History of the Manning Valley' by John Ramsland, William Tisdell is listed as a buyer of a town allotment in the first sale at Taree 12.12.1854. (page 48) and on page 128 William & Catherine are mentioned as parents who sent their children to the Church of England School at Taree, the teacher being Ann Mary Parker.
