Welcome to WikiTree. I also have some Australian relatives who are of Scottish ancestry and who share the same relative that I do - George Wood Laird. my great-grandmother Margaret Maxwell Parker (born Laird)'s brother.

It's great to hear from you and to learn that we share some common ancestry through George Wood Laird! I'm sure it will be fascinating to trace our roots and discover the connections between us. Do you have any interesting stories or family traditions that have been passed down from your Scottish ancestors?
posted by Eden Thomsen
I might. One interesting story was about two of my grand-uncles, Charles Laird Parker and James T. Parker having enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. As for family traditions, it was stovies. However, I'm not sure whether my maternal grandmother or her mother ever made haggis. I'll have to ask my mother or my aunts about it. I almost forgot to tell you another thing: I share DNA with descendants of George Wood Laird. My mother met George Wood Laird's granddaughter, Robyn, when she had visited my youngest sister, who was studying for her Master's at the University of Sussex in late May 2008.

Wow, what great stories! It sounds like you have been able to stay connected to your Scottish herritage which is lovely!

My mother remembers her father singing many old Scottish songs. :)
