Biography

Raphael "Ralph" Thompson, son of John Ellis Thompson and Julie Brasseur, was born on 23 January 1886 in Church Point, Acadia Parish, Louisiana, United States.^[1] He was enumerated on a farm there during the 1900 census with his parents and siblings.^[2]

He married Mary Olivia Hebert, daughter of Jean Clairfe Hebert and Marie Emelia Rivette, on 26 December 1907 in Grand Coteau, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana.^[3][4]

The family was enumerated during the 1910 census, living in Acadia Parish on on a rented farm, where Ralph worked for his own account. He could read, write and speak English, but his wife only spoke French.^[5]

Ralph registered for the draft in 1918 at Abbeville, Vermilion Parish, during The Great War. He was living in the rural community of Wright, and working as a canal foreman for a rice company in Crowley. He was described as being of medium height and build, with blue eyes and light hair.^[11]

The family was enumerated in Vermilion Parish during the 1920 census.^[6] They have not been found in the 1930 census.

Ralph died at age 53 on 18 July 1939 in Acadia Parish.^[12][13] He was buried two days later at Kaplan Cemetery, aka Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, in Kaplan, Vermilion Parish.^[14] (Note: His obituary says he was buried at "Church Point Catholic cemetery.")
