Biography

John Y. Thompson was born in 1727, in County Antrim, Ireland and immigrated to New Castle county, Delaware before the American Revolutionary War. John was a member of the Committee of the Constitutional Assembly, representing New Castle County, Delaware. John is honored for his Patriotic Service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A114222. DAR records indicate that John died in 1790, in New Castle Delaware and that he was twice married. His first wife was Mary Sands and his second wife was Letitia McKean. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his son, David Thompson, who married Frances Aiken. ^[1]

"A tribute of respect to the memory of Dorothe wife of John Thompson, Esq. who departed this life on the 3rd of September 1776 aged 40 years"

"This monument is erected as tribute of respect to the memory of John Thompson, Esq. Second Justice of the Court of common pleas for the County of New Castle who departed this life on the 31st of October 1790 aged 61 years"

"This monument is erected removed from a private burial ground by Act of the General Assembly of the state A.D. 1913"
