Burrell was the son of Burrell Thompson and Phoebe Watson. His sister Phoebe Jane Thompson married Simeon Farris Haynes, Dedenia's brother. He registered to vote on July 7, 1867 in Clay County, Alabama. He is buried at Attalla Cemetery, Attalla, Etowah County, Alabama. In his bio, it reads this may not be burial place but his descendant has a newspaper that says he is buried in or near a Baptist Church in Attalla, Etowah County. This cemetery covers several acres and may contain a couple hundred graves or more. Only a few are maintained while the rest are covered with heavy brush, most being unmarked.
