Biographie

Biography

Jean-Baptiste Thériault, son of Joseph Theriot and Marie-Josèphe Girouard, If he was born in 1757 then he was born in Acadie. His (likely) younger brother Pierre, was baptized in Trois Pistioles Quebec in 1760, parents identified as Acadian by the priest. No baptism record was found for Jean-Baptiste.

He married Geneviève Pinet (Pierre Pinet, deceased, and Marie Vienneau) ca 1784.[1]

As a militia captain[1], he had an influential position in the community, acting as he did as liaison between the residents and the administration. Militia captains were also responsible for maintaining order in times of emergency, and were chosen for their recognized bravery and well respected in their communities.

He was also a ship's captain, and one of the principle founders of Grand Anse in New Brunswick. Father Joyer said of him in 1806 that he was the most compelling of his parishioners and was well liked and held in high esteem far from the parish. He was a resident of Caraquet before moving to Grande Anse. [1]
