Marie-Modeste Theriault was born to Paul Theriault and Anne Hébert about 1754 in Beaubassin, Acadie. The family remained there until the eve of the deportation of the Acadians (in 1755) when they ran away to Rivière-Ouelle in Québec. There, her father became a flour-mill owner.

She married Ignace Paradis on 6 Nov 1775 in St-Louis parish, Kamouraska, Province de Québec ^{[1] [2]}.
