Biography

Philias was born on March 22, 1857, to Joseph Theriault and Phoebe Boudreau. [1][2] He was baptized on March 30, 1857, at Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens church in Caraquet. His godparents were Pierre Boudreau and Eloîse Léger.[1]

Lucile Chenard and Philias Thériault, both of Caraquet, married on January 17, 1881, in Caraquet. they married with the consent of their parents, who are not named in the register. [3] [4]

Children:

  • Marie was born on November 29, 1881, and baptized the next day at Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens church in Caraquet. Her parents were Philias Thériault and Lucile Chenard; her godparents were Dominique Chenard and Christine Landry.[5]
  • Joseph Michel was born on August 19, 1883, and baptized the next day at Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens church in Caraquet. His parents were Philias Thériault and Lucile Chenard; his godparents were Patrice Landry and Marguerite Thériault.[6]
  • Marie Clothilde Hélène was born on January 29, 1886, and baptized on February 5, 1886, at Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens church in Caraquet. Her parents were Philias Thériault and Lucile Chenard; her godparents were Bernard Brideau and Hélène Haché.[6]
  • Joseph Gustave was born on October 1, 1887, and baptized on October 5, 1887, at Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens church in Caraquet. His parents were Philias Thériault and Lucile Chenard; his godparents were Majorique Cormier and Philomène Thériault.[6]
  • Mary Ursule Theriault was born on December 27, 1890, in Caraquet, to Philias Theriault and Lucile Chenard. [6][7] She was baptized on January 2, 1891, at Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens church in Caraquet. Her godparents were Phillias Léger and Marie Thériault.[6]
  • Joseph Marie Richard was born on May 14, 1894, and baptized the next day, at Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens church in Caraquet. His parents were Philias Thériault and Lucile Chenard; his godparents were Alexandre Landry and Joséphine Thériault.[6][8]
  • Joseph Aimé was born on July 5, 1895, and baptized the next day at Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens church in Caraquet. His parents were Philias Thériault and Lucile Chenard; his godparents were Aimé Thériault and Joséphine Thériault. [6][9]
  • Merrie Christine Rosa Theriault was born on May 31, 1897, in Caraquet, to Philias Theriault and Lucile Chenard. Emilie Hache was the midwife. [10]

Philias had spent his life as a farmer, as evidenced from the children's birth records. He died of a stroke, (contributing factors included hemiplegia, high blood pressure and atherosclerosis), on July 21, 1952, in Bertrand, at 95 years and four months old. His death was reported by his son Aimé Thériault, who was a resident of Bertrand, so it is likely that Philias was living with his son at the time of his death. His wife had predeceased him. Philias was buried on July 23, 1952, in Bertrand. Note that the death certificate spelled his name Phelias.[11]
