Biography

John was born about 1855-6, at or near Kelso, Roxburghshire. He is the son of William Taylor and Christian Clazy.

He was shown in the 1861, 1871 & 1881 UK censuses at Kelso. After that, there were too many John Taylors to be certain about identity.

Then John Taylor seemingly reappeared in the 1911 UK census at Westgate, now part of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, in Northumberland, northern England. The census showed John Taylor, age 51, born about 1860 at Kelso, Roxburghshire! That place of birth suggests that he was this same person.

Westgate is described online as: "WESTGATE, a township and a sub-district in Newcastle-upon-Tyne district, Northumberland."

John Taylor's death has not been found in records. There were many men the same name, so identifying his is far from easy.
