Lewis Tarrant was born on 22 April 1897 in Fitzroy, Colony of Victoria ^[1]. His parents were Henry Edward Tarrant (1860–1917) and Anne Madeline Hazeldine (Cozens) Tarrant (1867–1953).

His siblings were:

• Joseph Cozens Tarrant (1886–1888)
• James Tarrant (1889–1968)
• Jane Winifred Tarrant (1894–1968)
• Annie Cozens (Tarrant) Feben (1903–1991)
• Clifford Tarrant (1905–1983)

28 December 1915, Lewis enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force; Service number: 6371^[2]. He was assigned to the 15 Reinforcements 2 Field Company Engineers later transferred to 1 Field Company, set sail aboard HMAT A26 Armadale on 20 March 1916 for service in France, attained the rank of Sapper, returned to Australia aboard the Soudan (12 May 1919-26 June 1919) and was discharged on 13 August 1919. ^[3]

Aileen Alfreda FRANKLIN and Lewis TARRANT were married in 1920 in Victoria, Australia^[4]

Lewis died on 13 October 1970 in Heidelberg, Victoria, Australia ^[5] and was buried at the Fawkner Memorial Park^[6][7]

He is honoured on the Coburg Moreland State School No 2837 Honour Roll. ^[8]
