Hi Brad,

Thanks for your contributions to Puritan Great Migration (PGM) project profiles.

Like all WikiTree projects we check in with team members periodically to find out about their continued interest in the project. Would you please respond by February 12, 2024, to let us know about your interest:

1. Would you like to continue as a PGM project team member?;

2. Do you have any suggestions for PGM Project priorities in the next year (optional)?;

3. Do you have interest in taking a more active role within the PGM project, and if so, what you might be interested in doing (optional)?

Please respond to this comment on your profile, or if you'd like, send a private message to either Bobbie (Madison) Hall or S (Hill) Willson.

Thanks for all you do for PGM and WikiTree!

Regards,

Bobbie and Sharon, Co-Leaders, Puritan Great Migration Project

Brad,

I recently edited George Puddington (abt.1600-abt.1647), and Genej X is apparently reviewing my changes. George is PGM. I now have edited his wife Mary (Pooke) Davis (abt.1609-abt.1695). She is not labelled as PGM. Does the PGM group review the profile and decide whether to add the label? Do I submit a request for a review to the PGM group via the G2G questions tagged PGM? Or, as a non-PGM member, can I just add the label myself?

Thanks,

Gregg

posted by Gregg Purinton
Hi Gregg, good questions all. The (relatively) short answer is that Mary should also be PGM since she married George in England and presumably traveled with him to New England. Many times we don't have explicit documentation for wife & child but unless there is reason to believe that they traveled separatey from the male head of household, we make these family members PGM too. That is, when we remember to do it :)

If this was a brand-new person the normal process would be to submit a G2G query but in this case it's not necessary and I'll send a note to the PGM leaders to add PGM as a profile manager to Mary. Technically you or anybody can add any category to a profile but it's considered better practice to make sure the project (in this case PGM) is aware and in agreement when it will be a project-managed profile.

Brad,

I am adding my Ancestry tree to WikiTree, and I am just getting to pre-1700 ancestors. I have pre-1700 certification, but I think I need to join the PGM group to be able to create pre-1700 profiles. I am anticipating that most of my immigrant ancestors already have profiles. My immediate concern is creating a profile for Thomas Mussey, father of Lydia Lydia (Mussey) Purington (abt.1669-1737). Thomas is discussed in the Great Migration, vol V pg 204-205, but his immigration date is not known. Anderson discusses Thomas basically to clear up errors in other published works on early Mussey immigrants. Thomas appears in York County records from about 1650 to 1687.

Thanks,

Gregg

Brad,

I posted a comment yesterday on your page relating to Charles Browne of Rowley, MA, citing a source indicating an earlier arrival date in MA from England. Please let me know what you think. Mike

Hi Michael, I'm not a profile manager of that profile Browne-2520 so did not see the comment you posted there. As Momo pointed out, if you do a 'reply' to a message on a profile rather than a 'new comment' then the original poster will be notified. I'll respond on that profile.

Hi T!

Thanks for contributing to Puritan Great Migration profiles over the last six months. Every little bit helps, so please keep those edits coming!

Like all WikiTree projects we check in with team members twice per year and it's that time again. Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:

If you'd like to continue as a PGM project team member If you're happy with the team you're on (Research and/or Profile Improvement) or if you'd like to make a change Optionally, what you like since the reboot back in May or what you think could be improved. This could be something about Discord, or Google Groups, or managed profile spreadsheets, or challenge participation or really anything. If you like everything the way it is, you can let me know that too :)

If you'd like to tell me about a particular project or family you're working on, I'd love to hear about that as well.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. I look forward to hearing from you.

I'm a day late and a dollar short, but Sharon Wilson encouraged me to reply. I've been taking a short break from intense research right now, but you can put my name in for profile improvement team. Depending on time constraints, Research Team may be a possibility in the future. Thank you for your efforts to help make PGM profiles trustworthy.

Hi Brad,

I promised to let you know which team I would join within the PGM Project. I'd like to join the "Profile Improvement Team". My main goal is to try to use original English parish and other records (wills, land registry docs, local history archives) to improve the profiles of the migrants, and when possible check, clarify or prove their family origins. I will generally leave the Anderson-related and sourcing of American records to others who are resident in USA, and more easily able to verify those records offline where required.

Brad,

Wikitree is quickly becoming a full-time activity for many people. I am past those days, but I would be glad to work on the PGM Profile Team as time allows. I have dozens of PGM ancestors and have been neglecting them lately. I am also a Data Doctor and a member of Categorization.

Hi, I received your message regarding Joseph Ellis (1635-1674). I haven't had the opportunity to work on WikiTree projects in a long time. Our young children are stuck in remote learning while I juggle work. Hopefully someday I can return to being more responsive to requests. I love the WikiTree community. Thanks for all your hard work!

Hi all you brave people willing to dive into this confusing brew - just a heads up that the brother Joseph's bio text is still calling out George as his father. Also, all the docs I've seen from RIchard's time spell the name as Allis or Ellice. Was choosing keeping "Ellis" for Joseph and his father a conscious policy decision? Again, though, I'm chiming in from the cheap seats. This whole mystery has been a minefield for me, so I relegated myself to the sidelines. But, I'll be interested to see if a Y-DNA match for a descendant of this newly clarified line of Josephs turns up--so that my MRCA becomes "UnknownFIrst Husband of Widow Ellis" instead of Richard as is triangulated today.

Hi Brad,

I noticed that you made some major changes earlier to Abigail Acey's profile. You disconnected her parents and changed her data. This is Pre-1700 and a Project managed profile. Please review the help page on Pre-1700 Profiles. Especially, the parts about Project managed Pre-1700 profiles and, communication before editing or, making major changes.

Thank you,

Hey hun, thank you so much for all of your work on the wheeler name study! You are appreciated.

Hi hun,

Sorry for the late response. The best way to help on the Wheeler study is to go in and start checking profiles. If there is something that can be added, corrected or even just straighted up according to guidelines, go for it if you can.

Welcome to the study and thank you for your help.

BTW, I also checked our relationship to one another and found we are 10th cousins 1x removed! ... but not thru the Egbert line.

Hello Brad,

In reviewing my original Tree on Ancestry , my 14th Great-Grandparents were George and Elizabeth Wheeler. George was born in 1500 in Marston, Bedford , England. I don't have much on Elizabeth other than their Marriage, listed in the Warwickshire, England records. and that they had a son named John, born in 1538. I have to take the time to hand write all the dates and info and haven't been able to do so as yet. As I said in my previous message, my first Tree is a Mess so I am starting Fresh. Thank You , Again, for Your Assistance.

Hello B rad,

Thank You So Much for Your Message regarding the Wheeler Family. I actually had to start a new Tree on Ancestry because everything got so messed up on my first one. I will definitely look at the information you've told me about. I know my connection is to the Wheelers that settled in Connecticut some 400 years ago. Accurate information is crucial to tracing Direct Ancestry. I Appreciate Your Assistance so Much. Blessings to You and Yours Crystal
