Pioneer of the Queensland Sugar Industry.
In 1865, he planted sugar-cane at his Brancombe Plantation.
Owned two properties named Pioneer Mill, in Mackay and the Burdekin. Worked with John Crees, Percy Crees and Henry Braby.
In1877, the family moved to Pioneer Estate, Brandon.
Pioneer Mill is sold in 1883, the same year his mother dies. John was living in Tasmania at the time.
In 1891, John was living with his family and four servants at Hampshire.[4]
