Description

ArkivDigital is privately owned online repository of Swedish church records, taxation records, court records and other material of interest for family history research. Photos in color and high resolution improves readability, which is a great aid when handwriting is difficult and pages may be damaged.[1]

ArkivDigital has a number of useful person-related indexes:

  • an index of household records 1800-1947
  • indexes of births, marriage and death (coverage varies, with full coverage for some parishes, full coverage for births 1750-1840, almost full coverage for marriages 1750-1840 and full coverage for deaths 1750-1799.
  • a number of other indexes, for example one for estate inventories

The service is provided on a subscription basis with subscription periods of varying lengths.[2][3]

Most of the same records may be found for free at Riksarkivet, where they are usually in B&W. Finding things is usually easier with ArkivDigital, but Riksarkivet has advantages in some areas.

Citing ArkivDigital

ArkivDigital is a repository for sources. It is not enough to cite just the repository as a source citation in WikiTree (reference). A proper citation for a church record must also include the parish, the volume and a page number (when the volume is paginated). The ArkivDigital site/app offers citations in a number of different formats.

For formatting ArkivDigital references to church records we recommend App for ArkivDigital references by Lundholm-24 , which is based on one of the AD citation formats, including links.

It may be time to remove the template code from this space page.

There are no more profiles using it as a template, since some time last summer.

It may also be time to archive the old comments.

I did remove the template code and template related texts.

You should probably write a section on how to link to the page. There are people not using sourcerer.

Aleš.

I'll put it on my to-do list to write some new text for the page.

The what-links-here shows that there are a little bit over 500 pages that link to this space page, most of them profiles. I think most of them had used the space page as a template and just changed this into a link to this page when correcting the DB-error. However, doing that, the references lost all the information about which parish, which volume and which page that were in the template, so linking to this page as a source is fairly pointless.

I'll take this into account for the new text.

I did a lot of work on replacing the template last summer, but then I did a new lookup in ArkivDigital and used the app.

I asked a question 2014 about how to cite and found the answer today. Worth reading. I feel we should have some indication that we use Digital images

Good resource about using Arkiv Digital is the new blog http://blog.arkivdigital.net/

Ulf, I've updated the page to use .net for all the English URLs.

Magnus, while I was editing, I also updated the page with the new logo. What is the images template you mentioned?

Ulf, thanks for that information. I didn't realize ArkivDigital had English versions of the info pages! I'm pretty sure I looked at one point in the past and even when starting in the English version of the site, you still were directed to the Swedish info pages. Maybe they changed that recently?

When using English language in the reference, the link to Arkiv Digital points to https://www.arkivdigtal.net (which is an info page in English). The link generated for the AID information, however, points to the Swedish site (ending in .se). I think it would be better to have the link use ".net" here instead since then the information page is presented in English. When Swedish language is used, all links should be ".se" links.

Some confused thoughts. We now have a template for images. What is the best way to add a Arkiv Digital picture

This is one way I have tested
