I live in Gloucestershire, England. where I was born and lived most of my life.

I have a lot of family history information which I found through spending hours in the Gloucestershire Records office researching my family, who stayed for generations in Gloucestershire. I am now busy entering all the information I have found onto Wikitree and checking that in fact my information is correct.

I am also entering my husbands ancestors who range over a large area of England and into Scotland.

I have completed the PIP ( Profile Inprovement Project) during which I have learnt a a great deal and am now starting to go through the profiles I manage to improve them. So please forgive me if you look at one of my profiles which has not been improved yet. I am working on it. Smith-245120 16:28, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello Debi,

I am so sorry I did not pick up your previous message.

Yes, I would like to continue with the project. I have not been active in the project recently due to concentrating on my own tree and catching up with people not yet recorded on Wikitree.

Many thanks,

Best regards, Jan

Thanks for responding, Jan. The Biography Team might be a better fit for where you are currently concentrating. Team members work independently on their watchlist and anything that interests them. Would you like us to move you over to the Biography Team? Debi

Hello Jan,

The Profile Improvement Project (PIP) is performing a check-in. The Project operates in a team structure with these participant PIP Teams -- The Category Team, the Unknowns Team, and three Biography Teams. There is also the Voyage Team which guides new Voyagers. See the Profile Improvement Project Teams for a brief outline of each team.

You're currently identified as a member of the Abandoned Team, working on profiles from the linked spreadsheet and categories. Please let us know if you are content with your current Team or would like to change to one of the others.

If you have not already done so, we invite you to join the email GoogleGroup. We use the WikiTree Discord server #profile-improvement channel for our project. Neither is required; we also use the Profile_Improvement tag in G2G for Project announcements.

We thank you for all you do to help the Profile Improvement Project meet its goals. We would like to hear about the successes you’ve had and would also appreciate any feedback you have to help improve the Project. Please share your thoughts in a reply to this comment or via private message to one of us.

Hi Jan,

I am very interested in learning about your Cox family. I have taken the ftdna Big Y. Some of my surnames of interest are Smith, Cox, Whitfield, Vaughan, Ricks, Allen, Burall, and Merchant (Marchant.)

posted by David Cox
Hello David,

Thank you for your interest in the Cox family. I have not yet taken a DNA test, my tree is on Ancestry so I must get around to it.

My main interest so far in the Cox family is my ancestress Caroline Cox, Cox-34199, I have had trouble finding a baptism for her, and at her marriage, although I have her marriage certificate, the vicar has not listed her father's name. He failed to put the father's name on any marriage certificates. I have found her on the census and so I know her father is Estcourt Cox, a name which I also think is worth tracing to see where it comes from.

I believe the Cox family to be non-conformists and that is where I will find her baptism but at the moment I need to track down where those records are located.

I also find it interesting that so many of the family were stone masons. A that time they would have been in great demand and it is nice to see many members of the family possibly working together.

Best regards, Jan

Hi Again,

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I have an interest in the Smith family in Bisley, through Caroline's husband, and in the Smiths of the Whiteshill area of Stroud, which was my fathers family.

Hi Jan - sorry for the flurry of recent merge requests for John Clutterbuck (bef.1766-) and parents, not sure why Wikitree didn't flag them as possible duplicates when I added them. I had one census record that completely ruined some presumptions, so have been chasing through Clutterbucks in Stroud trying to fix it. Now done so no more from me on these profiles.

No problems.

We all have to do merges from time to time, it is good practice and shows that we are doing thorough research.

Hi Joan,

I am very happy with the teams I have chosen to get involved with. I really love finding sources for unsourced profiles and helping to get a bit more information about the person onto their profile.

I can't think of any improvements because my experience with the OT was very good. My TB, Malc Rowlands gave me advice and taught me new procedures and it was great to be given examples of profiles to look at to see how profiles should look.

Not much to say I am afraid but I really have enjoyed my journey, I have learned a lot, and I am looking forward to OT2 when there is a place available.

Best regards, Jan

Hello Robin,

Thank you for your message. I really enjoyed my pip voyage. I am currently working through all my older profiles to apply what I have learnt to make their profiles as 'beautiful' as I can.

I am not currently involved in any projects but I would like to get involved in improving profiles. I am always on the look out for orphan profiles which may belong to my extended family in order to improve them even if they are not directly connected to me.

I did apply and was accepted to the Discord channel but I had trouble understanding how things worked so I will look at this again.

Sincerely,

Jan

Hi Steve,

I have just looked at the great job you have done on the profile of Jane Bidmead, looks really good. I am going to learn some more about how to do this. I 'm much more familiar with spreadsheets as I constantly worked on and created them when I was working but I never had need to do much work on documents, but, one of the things I really love about Wikitree is being able to write a story about the life of the person you are adding and finding out about social history on the way. For example, I spent most of yesterday reinvestigating the next generation of Bingles and one has the occupation of Marine Store Dealer (I already have one of those on another line) as they lived at Brimscombe where there was an inland port on the canal (which at the moment is under restoration) I thought it was to do with boats. but no, they are Rag & Bone men (or woman) dealing in second hand items. So I have learnt something else new today.

Hi Jan,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles . These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.”

Hi Jan,

Thanks for taking responsibility for Orphaned Profiles. This is a courtesy email to share the After Adopting Orphans FAQ which explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. One quick way to find the profiles you adopted is by searching your Contributions List for the word "adopted" and "manager." You can find a quick link to your Contributions List in the My WikiTree dropdown menu.

If you will be working with any profiles needing GEDCOM cleanup, the AGC tool can help with formatting so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources; find or merge duplicates; clean up GEDCOM or merged biographies; or interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!

Thank you Michel,

I am enjoying Wikitree and I have found videos helpful. I will also check out RootsSearch .

I am busy loading onto wikitree my tree and as it was any years ago that I compiled it I am checking data has I go. I decided to look at Orphan Profiles to see if any of my ancestors were on the list and was very pleased to find 4 people who are in my husbands tree there so I have adopted them and am working on bringing them into the big tree. I use Ancestry for my tree but I am hoping that if I have made any errors someone will contact me as I load them onto Wikitree and via collaboration they will be resolved.

I will let you know if I have any questions.

Many thanks, Jan

Sounds good! Take your time. It is really good to verify all the information once in a while with all new documents becoming available online. Note that family trees are secondary or even tertiary sources; the documents are what we are after.

Keep up the good work!
