Biography

Mary Edith SILCOCK was born in 1861 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England[1]. She was the daughter of Jabez Mycroft SILCOCK and Emma HOLMES.

1871, 10 year old, Mary SILCOCK (incorrectly listed as Mary Elizabeth) was living in Regent Road, Salford, Lancashire, England with her widowed mother, Emma (age 32, Seamstress), silblings, Thomas (13, Errand Boy), Catherine (6) and George (3) and her grandparents, Daniel (53, Shoemaker) and Martha (52, Shoebinder) HICKMAN[2].

The barque, Selkirkshire set sail from Glasgow, Scotland on 12 November 1878 with the CALDERWOOD/SILCOCK family among the assisted immigrant passengers and arrived in Brisbane, Colony of Queensland on 2 November 1879 but were not allow to dock until 5 November due to illness on board[3][4]. The family consited of William CALDERWOOD (age 37) and his wife Emma (36) and her children from her former marriage, Mary SILCOCK (17), Kate SILCOCK (14) and George SILCOCK (11).

Hugh Henry COOMBS and Mary Edith SILCOCK were married on 24 January 1883 in Colony of Queensland[5].

COOMBS—SILCOCK.—On the 24th January, at the residence of the bride, by the Rev. E. Griffith, Hugh Henry Coombs, of Brisbane, to Mary Edith Silcock, eldest stepdaughter of the late Mr. William Calderwood.

She passed away on 4 May 1913 in Queensland, Australia[7] and was buried at the South Brisbane Cemetery[8]
