DAVID SHIPMAN, Gustavus, was born August 27, 1792, at Hartland, Connecticut. His father was a farmer. Advantages for education were comparatively good. He adopted the mason trade as the one by which to procure a living. In the fall of 1814, he came here and settled where he now lives. He was twenty-seven days on the road. In 1817 he went back to Connecticut, and from thence took his future bride to Vermont, where her parents dwelt. He was married to this lady, Lydia H. Kellogg, 25th September, 1817. As time advanced, six children were born, all of whom are living. Mr. Shipman owns one hundred acres of land. He is now spending his days with his son, Chester K., who is the donor of this brief sketch.
