Biography

Emery Schmidt was born in 1897 in Michigan. He was the son of George Matthais Schmidt (1870-1955) and Anna Elisabetha Gehringer (1871-1912).^[1]

The 1900 Census^[2] shows him at age 3 in the home of his parents in Kawkawlin Township, Bay County, Michigan.

The 1910 Census^[3] shows him at age 12 in the home of his father in Kawkawlin Township, Bay County, Michigan. He attended school within the census year.

The 1920 Census^[4] shows him at age 22 in the home of his cousin, John Meier, and his family in Bay Ward 7, Bay County, Michigan. He is a laborer for a sugar company.

The 1930 Census^[5] shows him at age 32 as a lodger in the home of Fredrick Kernstock in Williams Township, Bay County, Michigan. He is a general farm laborer. Note: His relationship to head of the family was initially written as hired man, but written over with lodger.

He died on 15 Sep 1938 in Williams Township, Bay County, Michigan.^[6] His death certificate states that he is single, and that he committed suicide by carbon monoxide.^[7] The informant on the death certificate was Mrs. Otto Kreuger.

He is buried at the Heavenly Rest Cemetery in Kawkawlin, Bay County, Michigan.^[8]
