Biography

Edmund's year of birth can be calculated from three sources - in the Will of his father Sir Thomas Saunders dated 7 Mar 1564 he is 'under 24'; the IPM for his father has his age as 23 and at the Court of Lady Joan Amcotts widow of 2 Oct 1670 he is described as 'the son and heir' and 'over 30 years old' - these would give an estimated year of birth of 1540.

Edmund died at Tendring Essex in October 1615 (his daughter, Anne Bowyer, formerly Drury nee Saunders lived at Tendring) and was buried at St Edmond King Martyr Tendring on 30 October 1615. Although the memorial erected at St Edmond King Martyr church states that Edmund died 5th November 1615 this is incorrect as the original parish register records the date of burial as 'xxxth day of October 1615'.

Research Notes

The Visitiation of Sussex gives his name as Edward.
