Jeanette Powell[1] Janetta married Honorius Powell.[2]

Janetta Riddle marriage to Honorius Powell. Her husband, Honorias Powell Jr was born to Honorias Powell Sr. and Joyce Mary Lamberth.

Extract of NOTES from Van Gundy Family Tree quoted as 'From The Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish in VA' :

Conrad vs. Kirtley--O. S. 112; N. S. 38--Bill, 31st July, 1806. Oratoris Stephen Conrad of Rockingham. About 1769 Honorius Powell of Orange County died. The widow, Jennett Powell, compromised with the children as to the property. Nathaniel Allen and Robert Royston intermarried with two of the granddaughters of Jennett, and were living in Georgia. St. Clair Kirtley was also Jennett's grandson, with whom she lived, but became dissatisfied and lived at orator's house until her death. (On the cover of this bill is the following: "I put this cover on between 7 and 8 o'clock on Thursday morning, September 26, 1839, and a very cold morning it was. The Clay Convention is in session in Staunton at this time and is the second day of its meeting. A. R. St. Clair, aged 39 years, against the 22 day of October next. Lord! Whose eye will this meet when I am in eternity". )

5/13/1762 "Honorius Powell and Jannet, of Orange County, to John David W ilper. £35. 270 acres on Hawk's Bill, a branch of Shanandore, patented to Honorius, 15th December, 1757. Teste: James and FrancisKirtley, Frances Slaughter. Delivered: Francis Kirtley, Esq., of Rockingham, 27th May, 1789."

3/9/1764 "Honorias Powell and Jannet, of Orange County, to William Buchanan, of the County aforesaid, £15 (paid by Wm. Bohannon), 200acres; corner Cap. Francis Kertley's. Teste: Francis Kirtley, John Early, Wm. ( ) Smith. Delivered: Francis Kirtley, April, 1767.

Jennett Powell's will of Rockingham County, dated 16th March, 1803, proved in Rockingham November, 1807. To daughters of James Riddles James Parker Riddle Sr (abt.1745-bef.1824) ,viz: Wineford Winifred Riddle (1768-1824) married to Hillas Oliver; Mary, Frances Frances (Riddle) Collins (abt.1775-bef.1830) , Lucy; to daughter of James Riddle, Jr., named Mary; to daughter of Francis Kirtley named Jennett; to John Bell's and Francis Kirtley's children.

She was mentioned in the will of son, Simon, in 1771 in Orange Co, VA. Augusta Co, VA.

Research Note:

Surname at birth and parentage is unverified. Van Gundy Family Tree has birth surname as 'Hartley'. The Kirtley Family Genealogy .... has her surname (unknown if birth) as 'Riddle'. With her age unverified when she married Honorias Powell jr., she may have had a previous marriage, which is also unknown. It is also believed Jeanette was the spouse of Honorias Powell jr. Second hand references indicate her Surname was 'Kirtley' , the daughter of Francis Paschel Kirtley and Frances (Beauford) Kirtley of Scotland, sister to Francis Kirtley.

Her will was dated 1803, proved 1807. Did she really live to over 100? See Chalkley, Lyman. 1912. Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia. Vol. II, Page 112. www.usgenweb.org.
