This biography was auto-generated by a GEDCOM import.[1] It's a rough draft and needs to be edited.

The son of William Meader Reynolds (1886—1940) andMary James Reynolds, née Thompson (1885—1941), and one of seven children, Richard Sylvannus Reynolds was born on 20 June 1915. He died on 2 September 2002. He was the brother of Tom Reynolds also a VFL player with the Essendon Football Club, the cousin of Richmond VFL champion player and coach Max Oppy, and the grandfather of Joel Reynolds who played for the Essendon Bombers as well between 2002 & 2006.

Dick Reynolds' funeral was held at St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne on 6 September 2002. After the service the hearse made its way to Windy Hill, where Essendon fans had gathered to farewell their greatest player one last time.[1]

His family's link with Essendon continued when his grandson Joel Reynolds was selected by the club in the 2001 AFL Draft. He made his debut in Round 3, 2002 against Brisbane at the Gabba, with Dick watching from the stands.

Dick Reynolds was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1985.

Dick Reynolds was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame as a LEGEND in 1996. He was described as: The 'King' in a dominant Essendon era. His roving skill, leadership and class in using the football was unparalleled. One of four triple Brownlow Medallists.

A statue in his honour was erected in 2004 at the Parade of Champions at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Richard Sylvanus Reynolds was know as "King Richard" He played for Essendon Football Club and was a very well respected player. Others in the football field at the time was his cousin Max Oppy and his brother Thomas. He was very well liked by his Wellings cousins. I never knew about him until I started doing the family history and I asked my cousins if they knew about him. Many stories were told about him. I just regret I never got to meet him,

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for looking after this Australian notable! I'm not sure if you're aware, but the Australia Project has recently changed their Australian Notables categories. We are now moving all the profiles currently under the Australia, Notables category to one or more of the sub-categories - see Australia, Notables category for the sub-categories and Australian Notables for information on how to include an Australian Notable category as part of the Notables sticker. You can also check if you have any other profiles that need moving from under this category by going to the category and choosing 'Limit to Watchlist' on the top RHS.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me,

Thanks so much! Gillian, co-Leader, Australia Project
