William Bradley Pitt was born 18 December 1963 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to William Alvin Pitt and Jane Etta Hillhouse. William ran a trucking business at the time and the family soon moved to Springfield, Missouri, a place Brad has described as "Mark Twain country" and "Jesse Jame country". In high school, Brad was active in various groups and clubs including Keys and Forensics, the school debate team and the golf, swimming and tennis teams. He also performed in musicals. In 1982 he enrolled in the University of Missouri to study journalism and advertising. As graduation loomed, Brad decided he wasn't ready to settle down. He loved films and since films were not made in Missouri he decided to go where they were made and two weeks before earning his degree, Brad packed it up and headed off to Los Angeles where he worked odd jobs and took acting classes.
Brad landed many roles and had some good success but a major turning point for him came in 1994 when he starred as Louis de Pointe du Lac in Interview with a Vampire. His performance in this role was not well received by critics. Later that year he also starred in Legends of the Fall and received mixed reviews. In 1995, Pitt starred in Seven where his performance was finally well received, even called screen acting at its best.
Brad has gone on to receive a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, five Academy Award nominations and one Academy Award win for a production by his film company Plan B Entertainment.
Brad has had a few high profile relationships including Gwyneth Paltrow and a five year marriage to Jennifer Aniston. He has been in a relationship now, with Angeline Jolie, for several years and the couple have six children, some naturally and some through adoption Brad and Angelina are both very involved in social issues in the United States as well as internationally.
