Happy New Year, Clare!

I came across an orphaned profile, Julian Richard Ralph, Ralph-1292, who is related to me within 24 degrees. However, he is related to you within 14 degrees. I just thought you might be interested in his connections, since he is a New Zealander, and there are only a couple of sources I could find.

Vikki

Thanks Victoria. I have found a few sources for Julian Richard Ralph and will add his parents later. BDM Sources, such as his marriage, are not easy to get hold of in NZ if they are not 50, 80, or 100 years old. We also have no census records! They do away with them once group statistics are extracted. What a waste!

Have a wonder-filled and Happy New Year!

Hello Clare,

I noticed that you mentioned Lyon Ludlow recently. My mother was Mary Agnes Lyon born 1901 in Islington England. Her father was Charles James Lyon, comedian. Her mother was Alexandra Munro, actress. They both took the stage name Ludlow. I therefore wonder if there is a connection. I was born and live in Melbourne 1939. Thank you, ROSALIND MEADMORE [email address removed]

Kia ora Rosalind

Do you know where I mentioned Lyon Ludlow? I would be able to do some research if you are able to put me in that direction, please. I do recall that there is a degree of confusion around the spelling of Ludlow/Ludlam etc. Nga mihi nui Clare

Ludlow-644 Richard Lyon Ludlow is connected to me through a series of 20 marriages etc, but is not a blood relative. I have not been able to work out a connection with your family yet, Rosalind. There is an Agnes (Ludlow) Pierson (Ludlow-367 and we have common great, great grandparents: Jane Shaw Ludlam and Henry Ludlam Snr. (Ludlow and Ludlam seem to be interchangeable in earlier years.)

Clare, I’m very excited to find out l have a distant cousin in New Zealand! We are 8th cousins 3x removed! I live in Oklahoma, USA.

Our family lines connect when one of your ancestors who stayed in America married a Gist, my maiden name. There are common names, Turner, Barger, etc. I think all these connections occurred in Missouri. Very nice to know you!

That relationship is not too distant at all. Debbie. So pleased that you let me know. My Pierson ancestors went from York, England to Boston then Long Island and were among the founders of the Hamptons. My great, great, grandfather moved to Cairo in the Catskills near Albany, New York where my great grandfather was born. He came to New Zealand from Cairo, New York, aboard a whaling ship. Sarah Higgins Stout is the first name that I recognise in the chain of relationships. My great, great, grandmother Eleanor (Carbine) Pierson was the daughter of great, great, great, grandfather,Zebulon Carbine and he is connected to your tree as the son of Mary Stout who married a Carbine.

I very much enjoy finding relatives in the USA. I haven't been to Oklahoma, just California, New York, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan and State College, Pennsylvania. I met one 9th Pierson cousin in Roseville, California and one 3rd Pierson cousin in Easthampton, Long Island. I communicate through Facebook with one Pierson 3rd cousin in Florida and a couple of older Holley relatives by email! I know that there are others in New Jersey and other states, but don't have any communication with any. Thanks for letting me know. With every best wish, Clare.

For the first time the connection finder showed me an all-green connection, and it was to you, Clare!

We seem to be related through the Meldrums from Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. My grandmother Helen Irene (Nellie) Meldrum (1878-1974) (married Madill) was half-sister of James Meldrum in the connection. Their father was Henry (Montrose?) Meldrum (1822-1901) who was born in Scotland but emigrated to Canada. His two wives were Janet Fotheringham (c. 1818-1857) and Mary Thomson (1837-1917).

I am hoping that all this fits with your research, and with our proposed Wikitree connection. My contributions to Wikitree have been sporadic as I fight with sources and citations, but bit by bit I am getting there.

Thanks for all your contributions and welcome to my family of many cousins of one kind or another!

Bridget

Hi Clare,

Thanks  for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz

As Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects coordinating them is essential. Please ensure there is a location and that the location data matches dates of profiles, avoid abbreviations, add citations & links for sources to support the data, please review these pages   Reliable Pre-1700 Sources  and   Help Sources   for Pre-1700 as well as  United States reliable sources. The profiles you have created so far are in need of better sources so please revisit those profiles as soon as you can. Also note you created a duplicate profile for https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Culver-2373 I have proposed a merge into the older profile https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Culver-249, please accept this then work on sourcing the combined profile. Note merges always go into the lower number.

The United States Project and its subprojects for each state, would be of interest. Adding the tag UNITED_STATES will connect you  Follow this link for  your tags  This prorject has sub projects  for each State and each of those have their own subprojects for counties.

Explore Pre-1700 Projects list to find one that fits your research focus.
