Biography

Jacob was born ca. 1821 in Ohio.^{[citation needed]}

He married Rebecca Adkins on 25 Mar 1843 in Champaign County, Illinois.^[1][2]

At the time of the 1850 Census, Jacob and Rebecca were living and farming in Champaign, Illinois. There were three children in their household -- Daniel (age 7), Elizabeth (age 2), Merry [sic] (age 1), and Charlotte (age 1 mos). Their oldest child, Daniel, was born in Illinois, but the other three children were said to be born in Indiana. Also, they were living next door to 57-year-old Daniel Miller, who may be related in some way -- was he Jacob's father?^[3][4]

Sometime before the 1860 Census, Jacob and his family moved to Washington Township, Greene County, Iowa where they continued to operate a farm. They had six children in their family at this time: Daniel, Elizabeth, Mary, Charlotte (listed as "C.T."), Caroline and Olive.^[5]
