1. Do you know Douglas Colenso MILLER? I believe he is a great-grandson of this John MILLER; grandson of Thomas MILLER and Margaret Ann CARTER; and son of Richard Colenso MILLER. I am interested, because of Y-DNA test results on the Y-search website before it was closed. Douglas was a close match with my cousin - who traces his MILLER ancestry to Stronsay, who has also tested with family tree DNA [ftdna.com]. I would love to make contact with Douglas - or anyone else, who might be able to help me work out how the two lines of MILLERs are related.

2. Do you know the amazing Orkney website raymillar.co.uk? Ray gives the parents of 'your' John C. MILLER as John MILLER and Jane COOPER, married 1843 in Stronsay, Orkney. They had six children, and the first 4, including John, were born in Stronsay before the family moved to Kirkwall between 1854 and 1858. Ray 's site also gives ancestors etc for Ann RENDALL. I am sure Ray would be delighted to correspond with you.

3. I also have MILLER ancestors, the earliest known living on Sanday, Orkney (just a few miles by boat from Stronsay!) - but am actually related to my Orkney MILLER Y-DNA testee through the OMOND family.... I have recently been in Orkney, and researching my family as well as trying to understand what life was like there in 1700 and 1800s. My great-great-grandparents, Peter MILLER and Mary Ann OMOND were married in Eday, Orkney in 1854 and arrived in Tasmania just months later.
