Biography
Charles Henry Meyer, Jr. was born November 23, 1898, in Lexington, Lee County, Texas, a son of Charles Meyer and Louise Schroeder. "Charlie Mayer" is found on the United States Census of 1900, residing with his parents and three older siblings, Edwin, age 11, Emma, age 9 and Nellie H. Meyer, age 9. [1]
On September 12, 1918, in Giddings, Lee County, Texas, at the age of 19 years, Charles Henry Meyer registered for the draft for World War I. [2] On October 7, 1925, in Lee County, Charlie Meyer married Miss Frieda Wernecke. [3]
On October 15, 1928, in Lee County, Texas, "Charley Meyer, Jr." and Freda Wernecke welcomed a son. [4] The birth index does not give the name of their son, but we know that he is also named Charles Meyer, as he appears as such on the 1930 Census, as does their younger son, Clarence. [5]
Charlie died April 18, 1973, at the age of 74, in LaGrange, Fayette County, Texas and is buried in the Hannes-Old Dime Box Cemetery, in Old Dime Box, Lee County, Texas. [6]
