Biography

Stuart's birthdate is recorded differently in various documents, I have settled on December 1897 because the helpful vicar recorded the birth dates of his 'clients' in the margin of his baptism record of Febuary 1898. In 1918 Stuart 'joined up' in the First World War and was sent to Clipstone training camp in Nottinghamshire, he later joined the machine gun corp. As a coal miner Stuart was working in a 'reserved occupation' and as such was not compelled to go and fight. Within less than a month of the armistice being signed in 1918 Stuart was 'demobbed' and sent back to Tibshelf colliery by the army. In an ironic tragedy on New Year's Day 1924 Stuart was killed by a fall of coal at Tibshelf colliery. He was unmarried.
