Anne McCarty Braden (July 28, 1924 – March 6, 2006) was an American civil rights activist, journalist, and educator dedicated to the cause of racial equality.
Anne, child of Anita Crabbe, was born on 28 July 1924 in Jefferson, Kentucky, United States.[1]
In the 1930 census enumerated on 4 April 1930, Anne (age 5) was living in Owensboro, Daviess, Kentucky, United States with her father, Gambrell N McCarty (35), mother, Anita C. McCarty (33) and brother, Lindsay (10). Her father was employed as a traveling salesman for a Feed Manufacturer. [2]
In the 1940 census enumerated on 16 April 1940, Anne (age 15) was living in Anniston, Calhoun, Alabama, United States with her parents Gambrell N. McCarty (44) and Anita Crabbe (42) and brother, Lindsay (20), where her father was a Stock Feed salesman.[3]
Anne (age 23), daughter of Gambrell Mccarty & Anita Crabbe, married Carl Braden (age 33) on 21 June 1948 in Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky, United States.[4]
Anita's experiences in Anniston, AL, her education at Randolph-Macon Woman's College, her marriage to Carl James Braden (1914-1975), and her chosen career as a journalist all inspired her to take an active stand in the civil rights movement. [5]
In the 1950 census, Anne (age 25), Journalist, was the wife of Carl J Braden in Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky, United States.[6]
Anne died on 6 March 2006 and was buried in Eminence, Henry, Kentucky, United States.[7][8]
Anne was in an obituary on 31 December 2006 in Alabama, United States. She died (age 81) on 6 March 2006 in Kentucky.[9]
Anne was born in 1924, the daughter of Gambrell McCarty and Anita Crabbe. She married Carl Braden in 1948. She passed away in 2006.
