Biography

This profile is part of the Cudmore Name Study.

Ellen McCarthy (age 16) arrived on 3 June 1841 on the Duchess of Northumberland. She was Roman Catholic, could read (but not write), was from Tipperary, and was travelling with Mary McCarthy age 21 and Margaret McCarthy aged 17.[1]

Ellen McCarthy's marriage to James Cudmore was registered in 1844 in Victoria, Australia.[2]

Ellen Cudmore nee McCarthy's daughter was born in 1847 in Melbourne, Victoria. Ellen's husband was James Cudmore.[3][4]

Ellen's daughter died in 1872.

THE Friends of Mrs. ELLEN CUDMORE are respectfully invited to follow the remains of her late daughter, Mary Ann, to the place of interment, Mel-bourne General Cemetery.
The funeral to move from her residence, Ievers-terrace, off Cardigan-street, near Coachmakers' Arms Hotel, Carlton, THIS DAY, 19th Inst., at 1 o'clock.

Cudmore Ellen aged 44 years native of Ireland arrived in 1847, in the ship Duchess of Northumberland died on the 6th April of phthisis.[7]

Ellen Cudmore died on 8 April 1874 and was buried in Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton North, Melbourne City, Victoria, Australia.[8]

Research notes

Ellen is apparently widowed by 1872. Her husband is probably the James Cudmore who died in 1862 James Cudmore (abt.1824-1862).
