Charles Madsen served in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) in World War 1. His enlistment date was 18 Jul 1917. His next of kin on enlistment was: Wife, Mrs Jeannie Madsen, Emu Park, via Rockhampton, Queensland. His unit was: Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force, Army Medical Corps. His Unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board SS Makambo on 16 September 1917 for Rabaul in Papua-New Guinea. His rank was Private. His Regimental Number was: 1142.
