Alexander was born in 1782. He was a Congressional Gold Medal recipient for his leadership in defeating the British at the Battle of Plattsburgh during the War of 1812.
“Alexander Macomb, the future American major-general who defeated the British under Prevost at Plattsburgh, Sept. 1814.” [1]
He died in 1841.
Macomb County, Michigan, is named in his honor.
