Biography

Harry Lemar was born in the Colony of South Australia (1836-1900)

Henry Lemar (known as Harry) was born near Macclesfield, South Australia on 28 January 1864. His parents were John Thomas Lemar and Sarah Ellen (Wood) Lemar.[1]

Henry married Elizabeth Davis on 24 March 1887 at the Wesleyan Church in Macclesfield. He was 23, son of John Lemar; she was 21, daughter of Eli Davis.[2] Elizabeth's older brother Samuel had married Harry's older sister Harriet almost two years earlier.

Harry and Elizabeth lived at Paris Creek (also near Macclesfield) in 1900.[3]

Harry and Elizabeth had four children:

  • George Horace Lemar (1888–1953)
  • Sarah Ellen (Nellie) Lemar (later Love, 1891–1941)
  • Ethel May Lemar (later Paine, 1891–1942)
  • Hazel Elizabeth Lemar (later Smith, 1899–1976)

Nellie and Ethel were twins.

Henry Lemar died aged 36 on 18 March 1900 at Macclesfield.[4]

SUDDEN DEATHS AT MACCLESFIELD.
Mr. Henry Lemar, a well-known and highly successful gardener, died very suddenly this morning. He had been ill for a day or two. Heart disease is said to be the cause. The news of his death, came as a great shock to the whole neighbourhood. The deceased was widely known and highly respected by every one. He has left a widow and four children.

He was buried at Macclesfield Cemetery.[6]
