Excuse me for using your nickname. If preferred a different name please inform me. If you have any questions about WikiTree...- this might be an open invitation to create more work for me when answers are given, yet I appreciate all the help. Ancestry and DNA is time-consuming. I appreciate your diligence and bio.
Questions, 1-Do I start a new tree on WIKI, or is my ancestry.com able to be imported? 2-After reading all your public info, I feel better that WikiTree is a safe and secure site. Are there any bits of info that should always be made Private? Thank you, Michael Lee 'Cast Care' is better than 'Take Care,'
First, information that should always be private - your email address, phone number, physical address; we do not publish those items on a bio or in a forum question.
To transfer an Ancestry (or any other) tree to WikiTree, you can download your Ancestry tree to a GedCom and then upload the GedCom to WikiTree. I would suggest that you read about downloading the Ancestry tree on the Ancestry website. Then, if you have a program on your computer such as FamilyTreeMaker or RootsMagic, use that to receive your GedCom. Then, divide your tree into sections to upload to WikiTree. Smaller branches are much easier to handle through the GedCompare process. Here are the links in the Help section on WT https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:GEDCOM and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:GEDCOMpare
You can always choose to manually add your ancestors and source them as you go - some people find that easier. At some point, you will probably find some of your ancestors already here on WikiTree and you can just link to them.
I hope this has answered your questions and we look forward to your contributions.
