Françoise was born about 1761, likely in Connecticut where her parents Charles Brun and Marie Josephe Lord had been deported in 1755. [1] She was baptized on 6 September 1767 in Louiseville with her siblings Marie Josèphe, Charles and Anne. Their dates and location of birth were omitted in the register. [2]
On 14 August 1763, her father Charles, head of a family of 5, was on a list of Acadian families in Connecticut who desired to go to France. [3][4]
After the end of the Seven Years' War in 1763, the Acadians detained in the Anglo-American colonies were finally free to leave. On 1 March 1765, James Murray, Governor of the Province of Quebec, issued a proclamation offering free land to new immigrants. Between 1765 and 1775, 1306 Acadians deported to New England immigrated to Quebec. [4]
Two years later, after saving enough money to pay for their transportation, Françoise and her family boarded the brigantine Pitt that left New London in Connecticut on 26 June 1767 and disembarked at the port of Québec on 31 July 1767. [4]
Among the passengers of the brigantine Pitt were: [4]
Charles Brun 42
Marie-Josèphe Lord, his wife, 34
Marie-Josèphe Brun, daughter, 14
Louise-Anne Brun, daughter, 8
Françoise Brun, daughter, 6
Charles Brun, son, 1
The first mention of the family in Québec records occurred when the children were baptized in Louiseville on 6 September 1767. [4]
