Hi Maddie,

Thank you for your message.

I guess my priority is the England Project. This is mainly because most of the profiles I manage are from there. I am working on a one name study as well as my family tree.

I'm happy with the way Wikitree is working. I haven't contributed so much this past year because I have been reorganising my study. Hope to contribute more this year.

Kind regards,

Heather

Hi Ian,

Thank you for checking in. I have enjoyed working on the profiles. They are mostly my own family and those for the one name studies I do. They are mostly from England so I guess my contributions to the England team are sort of automatic. I joined Norfolk because that is where my Lawn family came from. I also have a lot of Hertfordshire and Middlesex/London ancestors. I think I have now found some from Cornwall. I am happy to join those teams, but I would be working on those profiles anyway.

Regards,

Heather

Thank you Heather! Every single English profile we improve contributes to the project's goals -- so working on your own family and One Name Study help us too. You are welcome to work on profiles from all over England without joining each county team. But, if you like, I can add you to the Hertfordshire, Greater London & Middlesex and Cornwall Teams too. Thank you!

Hi Heather,

We noticed you participated in the December Challenge but were not registered. We would like for the hard work you are doing on the Sourcerers' Challenge to count. Please register on this thread so we can give you the participation badge and any stickers you may earn.

https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1146844

Just ANSWER and say you are in. You will need to do this before 11:59 GMT of December 31, 2020.

For a submission to count, it cannot be a new profile (has to be in the database dump so around a week old). It cannot have any sources other than an internet tree or something that says personal knowledge and does not say how the person knows the profile subject. We audit the submissions so not all displayed counts may actually qualify as the tracker is not set up specifically for this Challenge.

Good sources are birth, marriage, death, military, or census records.

Also please do not use the tracker and please do not select Sourcerers Challenge unless you have registered to be part of the Challenge and are adding a source. Once you earn the badge you will not need to register again.

Hi Heather,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Amy, Joan & Lizzie.

Hello Amy,

Thank you for your message.

I am progressing well with the profiles that I am mamageing. I am enjoying the process very much.

I am doing a one name study for the surnames LARN, LAWN and LOWN. At the moment I have set up the LARN name category and I am the coordinator. I am thinking of doing the same for LAWN, because some people switched between the two spellings. Anyway, I am busy capturing the research I have already done for the LARN/LAWN studies.

A lot of my profiles are for people in Norfolk in the region of Great Yarmouth. I have joined the Norfolk project for that reason.

I confess that I have not been accessing discord lately, mostly because I have been concentrating on the one name study and my family tree in general.

I do see the updates by email for Wikitree England Project.

I am happy to help improve profiles that don't have sources etc. I guess I just need to go looking for them in the way that I did for the Orphan Trail I. Presumably if I choose Norfolk people it would help that project.

I do have a suggestion for the profile page form. It would be great if there were boxes for first date/place as well as birth date/place and last date/place as well as death date/place. A code could be added, C for baptisms, B for burials fro instance. I do this on my one name study spreadsheet because once one studies people before 1837 one often does not know the birth/death details. It would help greatly with matching, particularly with very frequent surnames such as SMITH. The code system if useful when there is just one date for a person is found, perhaps from before parish registers. I use L for living. The other useful one is R for registration for those that lived in between census years and one doesn't obtain the certificate.

I did start putting in baptism and registration places in as uncertain places for birth/death on the form, but people sometimes change them if I do this.

The other thing that would be help is if the place boxes were wider so that we can see the date options at the end of the place names.

I very much enjoyed the Orphan Trail I. I am trying to keep up the good things that Elaine taught me. When I am doing more early profiles I might take on OT2.

Thanks very much again for contacting me Amy.

Best wishes,

Heather Lawn (Lawn=253)

Hi Heather,

I'm glad to hear that you're progressing well! Name studies can be fascinating, so its good to hear that you're enjoying yours. I myself have a significant proportion of ancestry from Norfolk (my entire Utting family, and related families through marriages, have so far been from various areas of the county) so I'm particularly pleased to hear that you're doing so much work there!

The suggestion of input for baptism and burial has oft been discussed, but I do not know what the final concensus was. I'm more than happy to check on that for you, though, and register that you've brought it up as a concern.

I'm glad that you enjoyed the Trail!

Feel free to reach out to me in the future if there's anything that you need.

Regards, Amy
