Research Notes

Both Mark Dorney and Deborah Jorgensen are descendants of Ann Lambourne.

Mark's mother has a 12cm DNA match on Ancestry with George Leighton. George is a descendant of Samuel Lambourne. (paper trail not verified) Deborah has a DNA match on Ancestry with Judy Griffiths, descendant of Christopher Lambourne. (paper trail not verified)

Samuel and Christopher were brothers. In addition Christopher was married to Phoebe Woodward, which is quite the coincidence.

This all looks very promising, but Samuel and Christopher do not have a sister Elizabeth, nor a first cousin, and Phoebe does not have a brother William.

Her father is possibly this William or maybe this William. Based on some weak DNA evidence that appears contradicted by the paper trail Mark is related to a descendant of the brother of this Elizabeth. DNA link or not, this particular Elizabeth is a good candidate for Ann's mother based on geography and age. There are two other Elizabeth Lambournes, slightly older, from the same village though.

Biography

The master version of this biography, which includes embedded articles and images, is maintained at http://dorneyfamilyhistory.net/famtree_web/History_maternal.pdf

Ann was born in Wing, Buckinghamshire and baptised there on 23 June 1805. Her birth was recorded as “Ann Woodward or Lambourn” with parents William Woodward and Elizabeth Lambourn.[1]

Ann married Thomas Jordan on 18 November 1822 at All Saint’s Church in Wing. They had nine children together, William (1823), Robert (1825), Elizabeth (1828), Hannah (1830), Jane (1831), Hannah (1835), Rebecca (1837), Joseph (1840) and George (1842).

They were living on Chapel Lane in Wing at the time of the 1841 Census. In addition to her family, there was a ten year old boy, John Ashpole. If a relative, John was most likely on Ann’s side of the family.[2]

By the time of the 1851 Census they had shifted a block away to Vicarage Lane. Excepting her eldest, all of her children were still living with Ann and her husband.

By the time of the 1861 Census, Ann, along with her husband and youngest son, Henry were living in her daughter Jane's household in the hamlet of Burcott, just to the north of Wing village.

No profession was recorded for Ann in any of the three Censes.

In February 1857 Ann was charged with stealing firewood, the property of Lord Overstone, but was discharged with a caution and not fined. Ann was almost certainly collecting fallen timber from his property, not raiding his woodpile.

In September 1859 Ann appeared as a witness in a case of assault, supporting Sarah Woolhead. Ann’s daughter Rebecca had married an Edwin Woolhead, but I’m not sure how Sarah is related.

Ann died on 9 July 1862 at Burcott. The cause of death was given as rheumatism, from which she had been suffering for five years. Eliza Colyer was present at the death. Ann’s son Joseph had married a Sarah Ann Collier, so Eliza was probably an in-law caring for Ann.

There was a death notice for Ann in the newspaper, which was quite unusual, considering the era and her class.
